San Carlos

Located in San Mateo County, San Carlos’ small-town feel and proximity to San Francisco makes it an attractive alternative for those who wish to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city without leaving any of its conveniences behind.

But that’s not all. Known by its moniker The City of Good Living, San Carlos is also home to top-rated schools, a thriving local economy, and several wonderful attractions that make everyday life even more pleasant

Overview of San Carlos

San Carlos is located in the very heart of San Mateo County and serves as home to just over 30,700 residents.

A Native American group called the Ohlones used to live in the area until the Spanish arrived to the shores of San Francisco Bay starting in the 16th century. According to popular legend, the city derives its name from a Spanish ship (the San Carlos), King Charles III of Spain himself, or the Feast of St. Charles.

Today, San Carlos is a wonderful suburban city with a bustling downtown area that serves as home to locally-owned boutiques, restaurants, and shops. The city regularly organizes community events throughout the year. This includes the San Carlos Art & Wine Faire, which is a fun-filled, outdoor family event that highlights the city’s art, food, and microbrewery scene.

Highlights of the locale

  • San Carlos Farmers’ Market – Held every Sunday at Downtown San Carlos, the San Carlos Farmers’ Market brings together some of the area’s farmers and artisans. Here, you can source farm-fresh produce, food, and handmade goods in one convenient place.
  • Hiller Aviation Museum – Founded by Stanley Hiller in 1998, the Hiller Aviation Museum is located at the San Carlos Airport in San Carlos, California and specializes in Northern California aircraft history.
